Formed in 2002 as a collaboration of accomplished international musicians living in the Pacific Northwest, Global Heat offers a powerful audio-visual experience. Taking the best of Hip Hop styles and mixing them with original music plus jazz/R&B hits, Global Heat joins the leading edge of contemporary music and dance. Global Heat also offers participatory Workshops in: 1) Hip Hop music, dancing, and/or graphic arts, and in 2) African and Afro-latin drumming/rhythm. Instructors are master-level performing artists with many years of experience with youth and families.
Orbitron provides positive "family-friendly" Hip Hop lyrics and break dance for the "front-line" of Global Heat. "Orb" is a founding member of the legendary B-Boy crews Circle of Fire and SoulShifters. Orb has emerged as one of Seattle’s most celebrated B-boys. He has been featured at international events such as Lords of the Floor (Seattle), Battle of the Year 2000 (Germany), Dance Delight 2001 (Japan), Armory Cup 2006 (Korea), Juste de bout 2007 (Paris), B-Boy Summit (Los Angeles), and Freestyle Sessions (Seattle). As a solo artist, critics have praised Orb's B-Boy Universal LP, including Okayplayer.com (arguably the most respected Hip Hop website), awarding Orbitron 4/5 Questies. Larry Mizell Jr. (The Stranger) wrote, "Abstract, optimistic and spiritual, Orbitron evokes the (up)lifted vibe of Fresh Coast underground..." Will Johnsen (Seattle PI) proclaims, "...throw any track from this album on at the next park jam..." Mike Nardone (legendary Los Angeles DJ and host of KXLU's We Came From Beyond) proclaimed, "Go Get It... Fantastic Record!" .
With Global Heat, Orbitron is backed by a stellar line-up of NW musicians, including Bob Antolin on soprano saxophone, flute, and guitar, Rob Pastorok on keyboards and African talking drum, Marvin Shields, Jr. on vocals and bass, and Ricardo Guity on congas and drum kit. Global Heat was a featured act at the 2006 Shanghai International Music Festival for a week of performances in Shanghai, China. Band members have performed in over 25 countries worldwide. The group includes members and guests who are current or former members of Sam and Dave's "Soul Man", Taj Mahal band, Maya Soleil, The Rebelz, Mango Son, Babatunde Olatunji Band, Kanda Bongo Man, Guarneri Underground, and others.
