BIOGRAPHY
The Datura Blues were conceived over the duration of a stormy Humboldt County winter evening in December of 1999 as a way of combining pop sensationalism and various cultural cliches with noise, improvisation and a flair for the dramatic... What began as a trio has now grown to an extended network of family and friends, active in the pursuit of community-oriented and tradition-based associations to Sound... A handful of revolving performing musicians and recording artists living in Seattle provide songs with their initial backbone, while members (including those who contribute inspiration and talent from their respective homes in Washington, California, Oregon, Florida, Canada, Austria, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic,) operate under a collectively held ideology that music as a cultural function has the potential to transcend ethnocentric tendencies via the ancient art of storytelling... In 2001 the Datura Blues tamed the creature known as Beast, Please Be Still, or simply, "The Beast..." This monikor and pseudonym, under which the DB's have explored their more experimental and improvisational skills, encompasses through it's unique imagery and vision the very root of what Datura Blues members attempt to convey via Sound... The implication of compassion towards one's demons rather than hatred... A stilling of restless spirits... The BPBS Arts and Media Collective is a fledgling label that hopes to consolidate the collective efforts and intentions of its contributors... Ideas forming behind this mantra exhibit an idealistic philosophy which will be further defined on our website... Stay tuned!!!
