Drawing from post-punk, shoegaze and darkwave, C'est la Mort excavate corners of prized record collections and secret histories to create atmospheric and angular dream-pop referencing the iconic sounds of early 4AD, Creation and others from the gauzy age. Kim House’s ethereal vocals float dreamily atop a lush sea of sound created by Geoff Cox and Greg Forschler with their effected guitars. House’s melodic bass lines deftly weave through the cacophony while drummer Garrett Croxon anchors it all and pushes forward with an intricate post-punk jazz swing. Seattle's C'est la Mort (pronounced say la more) weathered multiple line-ups leading up to Empty Words Fill Lonely Spaces (some bordering on the Spinal Tap-esque: one drummer left because of narcolepsy; another moved to Belgium to work for the DEA). Recorded by Scott Colburn (Arcade Fire, Animal Collective), the album features since-departed guitarist Jim Biggs (Black Nite Crash), who took on lead vocals for two songs. Limited copies will include a bonus CD with remixes by folks from Doll Factory, No Knife, Pinback, Jesu, Black Noise Cannon, Jupe Jupe, Chadwick, Pleasurecraft, Fear of Dolls and more.
