Personal Clown Class with George Lewis in Seattle at Freehold -
This class is an approach to character that involves taking the part of oneself that is most uncomfortable, and expanding it to the ridiculous. It is an in-depth investigation into that deeper source of comedy: the tragedy of the character's failure. This work emphasizes physical articulation and expansion of the actor's every impulse and serves as an introduction into elements of physical comedy. The process is readily applicable to any role one may play as a way of discovering whole other dimensions of character.

George Lewis (Founding Partner, Freehold) has been working in the field of movement-based theatre for almost 40 years as an actor/performer, director, creator of original work, teacher, and producer. He has performed and toured with Omnibus in Montreal, Theatre-Mime Mirage in Boston, and the Sykes Group and threeCompany in Seattle. As a creator/director, he has brought his unique understanding of choreographic concern, dramatic acting values, and physical comedy skills to over fifty original works, including Fancy Mud with LeFrenchword and The Suicide for BASH Theatre in Seattle. From 2008 to 2012, George divided his time between Seattle and Buenos Aires, where he teaches and has created/directed three original full-length clown performances: The Last Time I Threw Myself Off a Cliff, Seasick, and The Myth of Love. He now resides permanently in Argentina, directing a new clown piece and a short play by Jean Tardiey, and generally exploring the absurdity of it all. He is a co-founder and Artistic Associate at Freehold Theatre Lab/Studio in Seattle.
